Spreadsheet programs like MS EXCEL are very popular with engineers because they allow you to simply automatize your calculations and quickly output the results. Therefore, combining MS EXCEL used as a graphical interface with Dlubal's WebService API is an obvious choice. By using the free xlwings library for Python, you can control EXCEL, and read and write values. The functionality is described in the following, using an example.
Sections are an excellent way to display and evaluate results clearly. In the RFEM and RSTAB section dialog boxes, you can display several result types at the same time.
In RF-/STEEL EC3, you can optimize a cross-section automatically within the design. To do this, select the corresponding cross-section in Table 1.3 or define variable parameters for a welded cross-section.
In RFEM and RSTAB, you can define a user-defined combination scheme. This can be helpful if a desired combination scheme cannot be created from a standard. In such cases, you can export the created load cases to Excel, create the scheme there, then import them to RFEM or RSTAB.
When modeling in RFEM, double lines may be created. To quickly find and delete them, if necessary, RFEM 5 allows you to export overlapping lines. This is possible, for example, in Excel or in a separate group of sections.
RF-COM/RS-COM is a programmable interface that allows the user to expand the main programs RFEM and RSTAB with customized input macros or post‑processing programs. A tool to copy and move selected guidelines in RFEM will be developed in this article. It is also possible to copy or move the guidelines to another work plane. VBA in Excel will be used as the programming environment.
The first part of the post about the COM interface describes opening and closing RFEM. VBA programming language is used in Excel; however, the program sequence is the same as for programming with C#. First, it is necessary to add the corresponding reference in VBA to recognize the commands for the interface. The image on the left shows an example of RFEM 5.
RFEM and RSTAB provide the export interface ("File" → "Export") to export model and load data, as well as results, to Excel or in a CSV file in one step. You can select the tables to be exported in the "Export Tables" section. The "Only selected tables" option allows you to export only a specific selection of tables. Use the [Select Load Cases and Tables for Export] button to open the corresponding dialog box.
The national parameters of EN 1992‑1‑1 for each country can be exported from RF‑/CONCRETE, RF‑/CONCRETE Columns, and RF‑/FOUNDATION Pro. To do this, there are interfaces with MS Excel, OpenOffice, and CSV. By exporting the national parameters, you can edit them in (for example) MS Excel, and display possible differences between the individual National Annexes clearly (see the image).
RF-/DYNAM Pro - Forced Vibrations provides the option of a time course monitor. During the evaluation process, you can compare several graphs directly in the program. In addition, you can transfer the figures to the printout report or export them directly to Excel as a value table.
